Wastewater Treatment Technology and Systems

Telder Engineering specifies and installs only the best advanced treatment system technology. We extensively research each system before it is considered for our customer applications. Systems are assessed for four season biological performance, reliability, installed cost, operating cost and maintenance.

Every system we use has a low cost of operation. Some use a passive treatment process. Others use efficient low energy aeration devices. All provide consistent high quality treatment in a well designed system. These systems can be used in a gravity or pumped field configuration. Because these systems produce Type 2 and Type 3 effluent quality they have much smaller dispersal field footprints than a conventional Type 1 treatment system. This is a major advantage for many challenging locations.

It is important to consider the overall cost of a system when choosing a particular technology. This includes initial capital cost, installation cost, impact of system choice on available usable lot area, maintenance and operational costs, replacement costs and end of life costs. Even though the capital cost of advanced treatment system components are generally greater than for a conventional system the installed cost may be quite similar due to the smaller overall footprint. Allowing for increased lot area for other purposes may add value and opportunity to an otherwise less usable property. As well, most all of the recommended advanced systems can be upgraded to extend service life and capacity. With regular service these systems can last years beyond the limited lifetime of conventional septic solutions and that includes dispersal fields. Using advanced treatment changes the dynamic of how wastewater is disposed, the soil becomes more aerobic in structure and fouling opportunity is reduced.

While we have our preferred technologies it is important to realize that none of them are suitable for all situations. We choose the best technology for the conditions, the needs of the customer and, of course, the budget. It is also important to remember that we use systems that our customers can easily and economically maintain: after all, if you do that for your car why wouldn't you do that for your wastewater treatment system?

In all cases the environment is never compromised by the design or system choice. Every location imposes particular environmental constraints and we tailor each installation to address them. The environment and our impact on it significantly influences how we design and what products we choose and use. There is enough pollution in the world and we don't need or want to add to it. For instance, wherever possible when natural materials like rock or sand can be used we design with these materials in preference to products made of plastic derived from petroleum or other environmentally toxic materials. It may not be big from a global perspective but every small effort can make a difference. As often as not this can also be better for the customers bottom line.
